What Are Dental Compressors?
Dental compressors are a type of air compressor that have been specifically designed to meet the needs of the dental, medical and scientific sectors. Dental air compressors supply power to all of the essential tools and equipment in a dental practice or surgery. The compressor’s role is to supply a continuous flow of high-pressure, high-quality air, which is delivered through specialised lines to dental equipment and handpieces. Compressed air also has other surgical uses, including preparing and filling sensitive cavities, where it is used to dry the cavity for more procedural and surgery efficiency and accuracy. It is also used for drying dental materials, cooling dental tools, and sterilising equipment which helps prevent infection, amongst other uses. Due to stringent guidelines, most dental clinics will also opt for an oil-free air compressor to supply a continuous flow of clean, medical-grade compressed air. The industry standard doesn’t currently stipulate that 100% oil-free compressed air is vital, but we’d highly recommend a certified Class 0 system to ensure maximum air purity and patient safety.
