Compressed Air System Energy Audit
- What is an air compressor energy audit?
- How are air compressor energy audits carried out?
- 6 reasons why you should conduct a compressed air energy audit
Compressed air systems don’t always run as intended or to their full potential, which reduces their energy efficiency and may impact your production and energy bill. Inefficiencies can be due to a number of things including
- Air leaks in your system (link?)
- Poorly designed or fitted pipework
- Incorrectly specified equipment
Compressed air energy audits are carried out by attaching a data-logging unit to each air compressor in your set-up for a fixed period of time. The data-loggers collect information about your compressed air system’s
- Pressure
- Temperature
- Dew point
- Flow rate
The results collected from this process are then analyzed to determine any problem areas or inefficiencies, for example, with your air pressure, power consumption or flow rate. We also take into account shift patterns, electricity costs on site, factory processes etc. so that our audit is as in depth and bespoke as possible. This information can then be used to inform the next steps, whether that may be system enhancements, new equipment, or, in some instances, a complete bespoke set-up revamp with return on investment include.
6 reasons to conduct a Compressed Air Energy Audit

- To establish the baseline at which your compressor should be running. If you notice inefficiencies compared to the expected performance, there is likely an issue with the system.
- To ensure you have the correct compressed air equipment in place to sufficiently meet your air demands.
- To troubleshoot any potential issues within the system. When a problem has occurred, data-logging can be a good tool to help understand the cause of the issue cutting out the guess work and getting a solution in place faster!
- To ensure your compressed air system is correctly maintained and to inform proactive maintenance, such as replacement of oil or air filters, separators and lubricants at the optimum time, rather than when they become blocked due to particulates and cause pressure loss or costly equipment damage
- To identify opportunities for saving! Data logging ensures your system is operating as required and spotting issues with efficiency. Identifying and rectifying these issues allow you to find opportunities to save money.
- To make sure that old piping or incorrectly sized piping can be identified and replaced, as piping with too many bends and tees can actually reduce the efficiency of your compressed air setup as your air has to travel a longer, trickier route, thus reducing air pressure
