Air Compressor Leak Detection
- What are air leaks & where might it occur?
- What are the implications of air compressor leaks? How can you detect them?
- How can Aircare help? Find out about our leak detection surveys!
An air leak is anywhere air is escaping from your compressed air system that it shouldn’t be. This might occur in a number of places:
- Couplings, hoses, tubes and fittings
- Pneumatics, filters, regulators and lubricators
- Pipe joints
- Drain valves
Many different factors can lead to leaks in your compressed air or vacuum system, which is why it is vital to watch out for them to prevent any costly or potentially dangerous issues! Anything from insufficient installation and sealing, cheap materials, external damage from other equipment in your facility to human error can cause leaks within your system.
What Are The Implications Of Air Compressor Leaks?
Air leaks can wreak havoc with your productivity and energy usage, resulting in excess spending on your energy bills. For example, a 3 mm diameter leak can cost up to £600 per annum, and with energy prices increasing, this is set to increase. The reduced efficiency of your system also leads to potential environmental impacts from the excess energy needed to achieve the same level of productivity.
How Can You Detect An Air Compressor Leak?
Air leaks can be silent and undetectable to human eyes and ears but still impact your production and energy consumption. If you suspect an air leak within your system, it’s always best to contact us, and we will be readily available to conduct a leak detection survey.
While you may be able to hear small leaks, larger leaks are often silent. Unexplained loss of compressed air even when your system isn’t using it can be another silent symptom of an air leak in your system, as well as unusual pressure losses, which are making your air compressor work harder to meet pressure demands. If you’re experiencing either of these issues, they could be due to an air leak, and we’d recommend contacting our expert team, who can identify the issue and its cause and resolve the problem for you!
Air Leak Detection Surveys
While air leaks can be detrimental to production, detecting them isn’t, our leak detection surveys can be conducted during normal working hours and don’t require any downtime.
We use best-in-class Beko ultrasonic survey handguns known as ULDs (Ultrasonic Leak Detectors). These innovative guns operate by pinpointing high-frequency sound waves that are produced by leaks within the air pipe and components. We may even be able to repair some leaks during the survey. For those we can’t fix on site, we will flag and send back a report with our recommendations so we can address any more leaks.
Some of our customers have made huge savings from detecting and repairing leaks within their systems, what could you save?
